CWGC Burials at Tarrant Monkton (All Saints) Churchyard

NOTE: a number of the casualties listed died at the Royal Naval Camp, Tarrant Monkton in early 1916, but none apart from Walter BROWN who died of
tuberculosis, had a cause of death. I did also find Frederick PITKIN serving with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment who died at that camp on 11th
April 1916. He was buried elsewhere, but died of Asthma and Pneumonia, and it seems likely some of those listed below died from the same diseases.

BRAILEE John Edward Private No. 14704 13th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment

Born in Worcester, Worcestershire about January 1875 son of Thomas Brailee, a shoemaker who died in 1909 and his wife Elizabeth Drinkwater who died in
1893. He married Emily Lees at Hallow, Worcestershire on 27th May 1901 and in 1911 was working as a house painter. He died at Royal Naval Camp,
Tarrant Monkton on 3rd February 1916, cause not found, and was buried on the 10th in the south east corner of the churchyard. His widow Emily was
living at Knoll Bank, Broadheath, Worcestershire.

BROWN Walter William Sapper No. Deal / 1022 (S) Royal Marines Divisional Engineers Royal Naval Division

Born in Deal, Kent on 15th March 1883 (not 1886 in Naval records) son of Thomas George Brown, a boatman, and his wife Rosina Farrier, and in 1911
the family lived at 103 Sandown Road, Deal, Kent, where Walter was working as a golf caddy. He enlisted on 27th January 1915, but having served in
Cape Helles, at Gallipoli he was invalided back to UK with rheumatism on 26th December 1915, but discharged on 7th January 1916. However by 24th
March 1916 he was at Royal Naval Hospital, Portland with tuberculosis and transferred to the Royal Naval Camp at Tarrant Monkton on 27th March 1916.
He died at 3 a.m. at B. 2 Lines at the Camp on 2nd April 1916 from pulmonary tuberculosis and heart failure, and was buried in south end of
the churchyard. His parents were then living at 4 Enfield Road, Deal.

Born in Islington, London in October 1877 son of Samuel James Howell, a master builder who died in February 1922, and his wife Adelaide Mary Carr
who died in December 1902. On 3rd August 1901 at Islington he married Ada Augusta Payne (known as Addie), and in 1911 they were living at 154
St Thomas Road, Islington, where he was working as a bricklayer. His Army Effects page says he committed suicide at Blandford Depot on 17th
May 1917, and was then buried on the 21st at the south end of the churchyard. His widow Addie died in July 1922.

KIMBERLEY Rupert Thomas Private No. 23000 Somerset Light Infantry attached to 13th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment.

Born in Ilkeston, Derbyshire in 1896 son of James Albert Kimberley, a coal miner who died in March 1901, and his wife Selina Ward who died in 1898.
The 1911 census shows him staying with his grandmother, listed as "Imbecile from birth" - a term then used for those considered weak minded. His burial
record says he died at Royal Naval Camp, Tarrant Monkton on 2nd April 1916, but does not give a cause of his death. He was buried in the south east
corner of the churchyard on the 5th. His sister Violet Elizabeth was then his nearest relative.

LATHWOOD William Richard Driver No. 53826 Training Depot (Aldershot) Royal Engineers

Born in Greenwich, London on 7th June 1884, son of Samuel John Lathwood, a boiler maker who died in 1891, and his wife Alice Kate Gardner, who then
married George Henry Webb in 1902 - he died in October 1916. In 1901 William was working as a bricklayer and had already enlisted by the 1911
census when he was serving at Bulford Camp on Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire. By 13th May 1915 he was serving in France, and in 1917 was based at Royal
Naval Camp, Tarrant Monkton, but died at the 2nd Western General Hospital, Manchester on 20th February 1917 cause of death not found. He was buried on
